It's hard for me to describe what truly drew me the recent Guillermo Del Toro exhibit at LACMA, because rarely do I feel such a direct connection with an artists showcase. I'm sure that being a fan of his work helped build excitement for what I was about to see. It's also true that my appreciation for the production for these type of physical pieces played into my love of the show. I would even say that the colors and textures he used throughout the rooms are palettes that I often gravitate towards.
I think the part that really hit home for me was his sense of curation. His collection was widely varied, but effortlessly coherent. There was an immediate theme, that carried throughout your visit, and stayed with you when you left. To see it all together really gave me a new appreciation for his talent.
